What am I doing wrong that keeps me from reaching my goals? One thing comes to my mind, lack of consistency. Lack of focused consitency. I put together a plan, get excited and try it out, once, twice. I might “turn the crank” a few more times. But then the excitment dies and I’m distracted by the new shiny thing.
The distractions are normal. Life, job, family. I’ll make some headway here and there, pick up a project or client. But in the freelance world one project or client doesn’t automatically turn into a full time job or income. Networking and marketing are the only full time work of a freelancer.
Technology keeps me coming back. I’ll want to get a little more digital with my habits or hear about a new social media platform. New apps that connect to products and services I’m already using and like make getting back online interesting. They’re also making it easier to connect using mobile devices – freeing me from my desk, something very important to me.
My latest hobby, photography, has me exploring new online places that focus on visuals more than text, like Flickr, Pinterest and Netboard.me. Through these sites I’ve glimpsed into lives of people from around the world and the things they see. I think Flickr is my favorite.
Taking my own photographs to use for my blog posts is intimidating – there are so many creative people! Being able to see the work of others, inspires me to try it too!
I hope that no matter how many times you try and fail, that you try one more time.
