Vesuvius Press emerged from the recession a force ready to take its place in the publishing industry.
Moving from a small building near Camelback and the 51, to a building large enough to house all the printing equipment, a book and gift store, and a venue space for up to 200 attendees, owner Jeff Campbell has a vision. To become the backbone of support for the burgeoning author community in the valley.
But this is more than just holding classes for writers.
The ongoing, monthly workshops will provide an opportunity for those who support authors to grow their audience by speaking, lecturing and/or leading hands-on workshops.
If you work in the publishing industry and want to grow your business through teaching or leading workshops, we are designing a simple system to benefit everyone involved, attendees and speakers. We want everyone to end their day feeling their time and money was well spent. And they can’t wait to come back and do it again.
We are looking for LOCAL talent! We believe there are many – MANY! – talented people in the Valley of the Sun who are ready to shine.
Here is a partial list of topics that we’d love to offer to attendees:
- Story Creation
- Editing – Proofreading
- Reviews & Critiques
- Cover Design
- Publishing – Self Publishing and Traditional Publishing*
- Social Media
- Audience Building
- Photography & Photographers – Someone to take headshots!
- Journaling – Life Stories, Family Histories
*Open Invite to Local Phoenix/Arizona Publishers!
We know that not all authors will “fit” with Vesuvius Press. Having other publishers come and speak gives attendees options and an opportunity to find the right “home” for their book. Same goes for editors, cover designers, formatters, etc.j
Marketing and Social Media For Authors
This is probably the hardest and most confusing issue facing authors. What is Marketing? What is Social Media, outside of Facebook? What is the best way to use one or the other or both to reach an audience interested in their work?
Having several Social Media Experts on the panel of teachers would bring many ideas, perspectives and methods of marketing and social media to the table. Give authors a choice of tools to use to grow their audience makes it easier for them to customize their routines, increasing their chances of success.
Share your social media and marketing knowledge to an eager audience. While some will learn enough to take on the task themselves, others will know they need it, but will want to hire you to do it for them! Teach a workshop and grow your business!
Our goal is to create a solid, supportive community for authors seeking information as they navigate their way through writing, publishing and marketing their work. Including local publishing professionals builds strong networking opportunities, increasing commerce and business success for all.
If you would like to be a part of the Phoenix Authors and Writers Workshops at Vesuvius Conference Center, please use the form located on this page.
And please share this page to your author friends and publishing colleagues!
Thank You 🙂
