If you own an older BMW, German Motor Works in north Scottsdale is a place you will want helping you take care of your aging Ultimate Driving Machine.
My son owns a 1997 BMW M3, a car he bought in 2003 and since 2012 has been living in my garage. We don’t drive the car very much for a couple of reasons, the first one being it’s a manual transmission. Yes, I can drive a stick. I would just rather not – I’ve stalled making a left hand turn.
Because the car is considered a classic, the dealerships aren’t really the place to go. Their service bays are geared towards the new models with all their new technology and warranties.
We’d been having trouble with the clutch sticking. A few miles into any trip and the clutch would go to the floorboards and stay there, making it impossible to shift. My husband was able to limp the car along, because i rigged the leather strap from my purse around the foot petal so he could pull it back up. It got us home and then back down to German Motor Works when they opened Monday morning.
It took a couple of try’s to fix, but none of them were extraordinarily expensive, all of them made sense to try, and were probably a factor in the overall equation of what was happening with the clutch.
During this time, Andrew and his crew of BMW mechanical Gods, were able to fix a couple of age related problems we’d been having but couldn’t get resolved at the dealership service department. They really fine tuned our little car without taking lots of time or handing us a pocket emptying bill at the end.
And the car runs beautifully! We were out and about the other day in it, driving all over the valley as we dropped our other car off at one dealership for work and helped transport our daughter and her car to and from a service appointment as well. It was a perfect October day in Arizona, the kind of day that’s made for cruising the beautiful freeways through Phoenix and Scottsdale with the windows down in a cool little car.
Thanks to Andrew and German Motor Works!
