Daily Paragraph Editing, Grade 8

Daily Paragraph Editing grade 8 provides 36 weeks of frequent, focused language practice to help your eighth graders learn the conventions of standard English grammar and usage. The concise daily activities are ideal warm-up exercises to begin your language arts block and are adaptable for small-group and whole-class instruction. How it works: students apply grade-level language skills to correct a paragraph on Monday through Thursday; when read together, the four paragraphs form a cohesive composition. A writing prompt on Friday relates to the weeks four-paragraph composition and gives students the chance to apply the targeted language conventions. The weekly compositions cover a broad range of expository and narrative writing forms.

I think it focuses too much on some lesser editing issues for most students, such as hyphens, which they encounter less frequently in their own writing. Teachers: The book does teach the Oxford comma as necessary, so keep that in mind in your utilization.

  2. Keeping language skills updated I love the paragraphs for editing. The students find them enjoyable and interesting. I wish there were transparencies to match the paragraphs.

  3. it has been an extremely useful tool in my classroom Some of the “errors” are not things students would typically run into. However, it has been an extremely useful tool in my classroom.
